Dark Circles
Dark circles under the eyes and hollows can develop in the tear trough area, the area between the cheek and lower eyelid, which can happen as a part of the ageing process when dark circles are getting apparent.
The dark circles may also be due to genetics or ethnicity, as dark circles under the eyes more commonly affect people with darker skin tones.
Age is the contributing factor, dark circles and hollows under the eyes develop due to lost volume and thinning skin, due to the reduction of collagen and elastin. The skin in this area is already quite delicate and coupled with further thinning, and a weakened structure can be prone to the blood vessels becoming more visible, giving the skin in this area a darker appearance.
Overexposure to the sun, dehydration, stress, and fatigue can exacerbate the conditions and be accompanied by puffiness in the lower lids. The affected person can often feel like they have adopted a tired appearance that makes them look older than they are, leading to lost confidence and lowered self-esteem
