Saggy Skin
Saggy skin develops as part of the ageing process. It is a natural occurrence, caused by a lack of collagen and elastin in the skin, which reduces as we get older.
The skin also contains Hyaluronic Acid, which helps to keep the skin hydrated. Hyaluronic acid can also diminish as we begin to age and contribute to saggy or droopy skin. Our youthful skin is full of volume and bounce.
The ageing process usually starts in our twenties, although the visible effects are often not noticed until our thirties or forties. By this time, we are treating a result as opposed to preventing one. It is essential to understand why our skin may take on a saggy appearance to effectively treat the cause and reduce sagging or drooping skin signs.
The reduction of elastin, the skin’s natural hydrator, leads to our skin losing its ability to naturally “bounce back” and retract.
Lack of elasticity along with the slowed production of subcutaneous fats beneath the skin, which helps retain the skin’s volume, can all contribute the appearance of saggy skin – particularly on the face and neck, often referred to as jowls or turkey neck.
At Dr PJ Aesthetic Clinic, our patients’ good advice is as crucial as great treatments from us to maintain a youthful appearance and successfully reduce ageing signs. We always inform our patients that as well as these naturally occurring instances, our lifestyle choices will also have an impact on how fast or slow we age. Sun exposure, smoking, diet, hydration, sleep, and a good skin care regimen will all affect. Aside from the natural ageing process and lifestyle, sagging skin can also be due to weight loss, whereby the skin has become stretched over time, as no longer can return to its preferred, tighter state.
At Dr PJ Aesthetic Clinic, we aim to help restore our patients’ confidence, so they always feel their best. We treat sagging skin by rehydrating, plumping, lifting and tightening through various means following consultation and assessment of each case.
