Gummy Smile and Teeth Grinding

Gummy Smile and Teeth Grinding

Possessing a gummy smile and teeth grinding are factors that can affect a person’s facial aesthetics, a central focus point to one’s appearance.

A gummy smile, also known as an excessive gingival display, sees too much gum on show above the top teeth when you smile. The most common cause for this condition is due to an overgrowth of gum tissue, covering the enamel on the teeth and making them shorter in appearance.

This condition can be down to your genetics, gum inflammation or side effects from particular medications. People who are affected by this concern are often unhappy with their appearance and feel self-conscious when smiling.

When a person is prone to tooth grinding (or Bruxism), it can affect the shape of their teeth as they become worn down. A condition that is often related to stress or anxiety, people may or may not be aware they are doing it and may also experience headaches or facial pain and the aesthetic difficulties that result from teeth that are different in shape.

Improving one’s smile can profoundly affect their whole facial aesthetics, making them feel happier with their appearance and increasing their self-esteem so they can smile confidently once more.

Gummy Smile and Teeth Grinding
Dr PJ Aesthetic Clinic can improve the appearance of a gummy smile through an injectable treatment containing Botulinum Toxin. When injected into the top lip’s elevator muscles, the Botulinum Toxin works to prevent the top lip from over contracting, thus showing less of the gums.
Botulinum toxin (Botox) injection can also be useful for teeth grinding, as this toxin also acts as a muscle relaxant. Used to treat the Masseter muscle (a large muscle that controls the jaw’s movement), Botulinum Toxin can weaken the Masseter to reduce involuntary teeth grinding and pause any further effects to the shape of the teeth.
Conventional treatment:

—Wrinkle Relaxing Injection (Botox)
