Rosacea
Rosacea is a common condition affecting the face where the most apparent symptom is reddening the skin.
In combination with certain bacteria’s presence, the sun’s rays can harm the blood vessels under the skin, cause facial flushing. Women over the age of 30 and people with fairer skin are more likely to be vulnerable to this condition, but affected men can often suffer more severe symptoms.
Although Rosacea is not usually cured completely, the symptoms can be effectively managed but may worsen if left untreated.
Redness of the forehead, nose, cheeks, and chin is the most common symptom seen in Rosacea’s people. The condition can see fluctuations in severity, also may be permanent or can come and go. Rosacea can primarily result from burst blood vessels beneath the skin, which can also vary in prominence, as these thin veins can appear singularly or in a cluster.
A spectrum of signs from a facial rash to an inflammatory reddish eruption resembling acne may happen.
Looking flushed may also be accompanied by sensitivity, feeling a burning or stinging sensation when washing or using certain products on the face, as well as small pus-filled pimples. It is not uncommon for people affected by Rosacea to experience dry or thickened skin, swelling around the eyes, orange or yellow patches on the skin or sore and crusty eyelids (Blepharitis).
The cause of Rosacea is not known, but it is thought that there are specific triggers, including:
- Sun exposure
- Alcohol consumption
- Hot or cold temperatures
- Wind
- Eating spicy foods
- Caffeine
- Hot drinks
- Strong emotions
- Overexertion (including aerobic exercise and run)
- Topical products that irritate the skin
- Some medications that cause flushing
