Carbon Peel (Q-Switch Laser)

Carbon Peel (Q-Switch Laser)

Also known as the ‘Hollywood Peel’, ‘Carbon Spectra Peel’ or ‘Carbon Facial’, the carbon peel is a rejuvenating skin treatment that works to exfoliate and resurface the skin, leaving your complexion looking smoother, fuller and fresher.

Various skin concerns can be addressed and improved by applying activated carbon powder and advanced Q-switch Nd:YAG laser.

Over time the skin can develop a range of conditions that affect its youthful tone and texture. The intrinsic changes that occur naturally, and several external factors, can cause the skin to show noticeable irregularities as skin weakens and cellular turnover slows down. The properties within the skin that help maintain the complexion’s natural glow start to decrease, giving way to dry skin susceptible to inflammation and sensitivity.

The carbon Peel can help restore the skin’s healthy condition as unwanted and damaged skin cells are repaired and replenished. The treatment is performed in two stages. First, carbon is applied to the skin, followed by a 1060 nm wavelength laser. The targeted heat of the laser causes controlled damage, triggering natural healing responses that increase collagenelastin, and fibroblast production.

In the second stage, the carbon solution is removed using a Q-switched laser that breaks up and absorbs the carbon using short pulses. This also removes any dead cells, excess oil, and other impurities lying on the skin’s surface. This process also provides deep exfoliation for skin that is brighter, smoother and softer.

Although the results can be instant, a series of 4-8 treatments every 3-4 weeks will provide an excellent outcome that lasts long-term.

Frequently Asked Questions

Am I suitable for carbon peel?
This treatment is a fantastic way of achieving fabulous looking skin ready for a special event. That red carpet look benefits those affected by dull and tired skin by restoring a radiant glow. The visible signs of ageing, including fine lines, wrinkles, enlarged pores and pigmentation issues can also be reduced as the complexion is repaired and replenished, strengthening the skin’s structure restoring healthy properties.
In most cases, the patient will experience some redness to the skin for the first few hours, following treatment. During this time, it is important to keep the skin clean, dry and free of cosmetics. To ensure pigmentation issues do not arise, wearing a high SPF (50+) for up to 1 month will be required. In some rare cases, blistering has occurred, so ensuring you share your medical history with your practitioner is vital to reduce the risk of a reaction.
Unlike other peel treatments, the carbon peel has no downtime attached. The solution applied to the face works more like a mask that draws out the skin’s impurities, rather than chemical compounds of various acids that penetrate the skin – and cause the skin to peel. With the carbon peel, there will be no shedding of the skin and the visible effects of this process and the sensitivity of the skin heals.
This treatment is used to revitalise the skin on the face. It effectively addresses conditions such as lines and wrinkles, enlarged pores, oily skin, acne and acne scarring, dull/dry skin, age spots, sun-damaged skin, uneven texture and congested skin.
Dr PJ Aesthetic Clinic may not recommend the carbon peel if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. If you have diabetes, you are undergoing cancer treatment, or have a diagnosed connective tissue disease, such as rheumatoid arthritis, lupus or scleroderma, you are not suitable for this treatment.
