Massage

Massage aims to ease the pain and tension in the body’s joints and muscles.

A massage therapist will use their hands to knead and rub the concerning area, applying just the right amount of pressure. We all lead busy lives these days and many people will carefully juggle the responsibilities of work, home and family.

Trying to find the right balance can often be tricky, and it can be all too easy to forget about taking the time to rest and relax. Allowing the body getting sufficient time to rest is essential for healthy functioning, and we all find different ways to switch off and unwind.

Swedish Massage is a traditional type of massage that uses kneading, tapping and circular motions. The masseuse will apply long, flowing strokes to the muscles that move towards the heart’s direction. Also, the masseuse will use their hands to massage the muscles, a series of passive joint movements may also be included.

This type of massage can help release the ‘knots’ built up in the muscles, helping to ease tension and fully relax. At Dr PJ Aesthetic Clinic, this massage technique is applied along with hot stones and replacing the hands. The stones may be placed on different body areas during the massage or held when applying the strokes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Am I suitable for a relaxing massage?
Massage therapy is an excellent treatment that will suit almost everyone. Whether you wish to relieve the stress built up in your body or just as a way to switch off and unwind, this treatment is designed to help you relax. The techniques of a Swedish, or ”traditional” massage are suitable for new people to massage or are particularly sensitive to touch.
A trained therapist should always perform a massage. The masseuse will ensure the techniques are correctly applied and safely by someone who has the appropriate anatomical knowledge.
This treatment is not designed to be painful. Some pressure will be applied to the muscles or joints, which aim to be soothing and relaxing. If you are looking to relieve any aches and pains, you may feel some sensation, but it should not be painful.
Any associated effects from a Swedish massage are infrequent. In some cases, the person may experience nausea or headaches. This feeling is temporary and is due to toxins leaving the body. If any soreness occurs, it may be because the body is not used to the procedure, and the effects will pass within a day or so.
No downtime is expected from massage therapy. The treatment should not inhibit your mobility and therefore, should not disrupt carrying out regular daily tasks.
