Q-Switch Laser
Q-switched lasers are designed to target the pigment in the skin.
A type of laser treatment that can address a variety of skin conditions, this procedure is predominantly used for the removal of tattoos.
Many people use body art to mark their identity, and tattoos are a popular choice. Tattoos can symbolise an item of significance in a person′s life, or create a statement about their personality. However, when a person comes to regret the inking they have, but feel they are stuck with it as a tattoo is designed to be permanent.
The Q-switching mechanism used in this device delivers short bursts of energy that are extremely powerful. This energy level makes Q-switch Nd:YAG laser an effective procedure for removing tattoos, as it can break up even the most difficult colourings. Patients will be required to wear some eye protection for the duration of this treatment.
The handheld device will be placed against the skin’s surface and moved around the treatment site as required. A series of treatments may be needed to eradicate the inking and results will depend on the colouring depth.
The Q-switch laser can also be used alongside a carbon peel, known as the ″dark crystal peel″. The carbon laser peel utilises a 2-part process. A carbon mask is applied to the face to exfoliate the skin and remove any debris or other impurities. When this gets dry, the laser can then be administered.
The laser will heat the carbon to help peel the skin. The result is glowing skin that is tighter and firmer through enhanced collagen production and skin cell regeneration.
What else it treats: Beyond tattoos, Q-Switch Nd:YAG can target sun spots, freckles, and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Suitability depends on pigment depth, colour, and skin type.
Sessions & feel: Expect a course of treatments 3–8 weeks apart. You’ll wear eye protection; pulses feel like quick snaps. Temporary whitening (“frosting”), redness, and mild swelling can occur for 24–72 hrs.
Before you come: Avoid sunbeds/self-tanners 2–4 weeks prior; pause strong exfoliants/retinoids 5–7 days before; arrive with clean skin.
Aftercare: Keep cool and clean; avoid heat, heavy exercise, and exfoliants for 48–72 hrs. Don’t pick; use gentle cleanser, bland moisturiser, and SPF 30+ daily.
Combining treatments:
Carbon Laser Peel (“Dark Crystal Peel”) to refine texture and brightness.
For small, stubborn fat (not treated by Q-Switch), consider mesolipo injection as a non-surgical complement.
The benefits of having this treatment can include the following:
- — Removal of an unwanted tattoo, or dramatic reduction in the appearance
- — Deep level of skin exfoliation
- — Improves sagging skin
- — Reduces the appearance of lines and wrinkles
- — Youthful radiance

Concerned About Localised Fat Too?
