Shockwave

Shockwave

The Shockwave treatment uses acoustic energy to generate biological effects, leading to faster and longer-term body tissue regeneration.

This energy promotes regeneration through the process of breaking the fibrotic tissues around the fat cells. Moreover, the treatment encourages repair of tendons and other soft tissue and increases lymphatic drainage.

Shockwaves are created by quickly changing the pressure of compressed air. The energy produced by this is characterised by high amplification and non-periodicity. It is transferred through the transmitter and penetrated deep into the bodily tissue.

Shockwave therapy can be administered alongside many other treatments, such as fat freezing (Cryolipolysis), local fat reduction and cellulite treatment. Also, Shockwave therapy can be used for pain relief. The acoustic waves carry high energy to painful spots, helping to heal muscular, skeletal, subacute, subchronic and chronic conditions. Shockwave therapy is a non-invasive treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which areas can be treated?
Shockwave therapy works best on stubborn fat cells and cellulite.
Studies have proven that including Shockwave therapy in the fat freezing treatment can result in twice the rate of fat cell removal than seen in the Cryolipolysis procedure alone. The first treatment should be performed immediately after a fat freezing session to maximise benefits. After this, Shockwave treatments should be administered weekly in the same area. Following this regiment will allow for fat freezing sessions at six-week intervals due to the increased cell regeneration, rather than the usual three-month intervals program. When using Shockwave therapy alongside local fat reduction, a review at three months is recommended.
There may be a slight feeling of discomfort during the treatment, depending on the level of energy. However, since each treatment period lasts only about five minutes, most patients can tolerate this discomfort. Additionally, the intensity of the treatment can be adjusted throughout the session.
The number of treatments varies depending on the indication and tissue response. The treatment’s effect is cumulative, so you will typically need more than one, usually 3-5 treatments.
Most indications require 3-5 treatments done 3-10 days apart, depending on the patient′s tolerance and tissue response.
Most patients will experience immediate pain relief following the treatment. However, within 2-4 hours after the treatment, they may experience some soreness in the treated area. This soreness has been reported as tolerable and not limiting. Side effects can include swelling (which can be improved with gentle movement), haematoma, bruising, and small bleeding spots under the skin. Generally, these side effects will pass within 2-5 days post-treatment.
It is recommended that patients refrain from physical activity, especially one that would involve the treated region, for about 48 hours following each treatment session. However, it is useful to do some gentle movement after the treatment to help with blood circulation and bring down swelling.
