Skin Tag and Mole Removal

Skin Tag and Mole Removal

Suggestive of its name, Skin tag/mole removal is a treatment aimed at producing a more even surface of the skin, by removing a lump or bump in the form of a skin tag or a mole.

A skin tag is a fleshy piece of tissue that protrudes from the skin, and can often be thought of as unattractive by the affected person.

While usually harmless, skin tags can be considered of as irritating, particularly when in an area where it can catch on clothing or jewellery such as the underarms or around the neck. Enlarger skin tags (papillomas) can reach 5 mm or more, but fortunately, most are only about 2-3 mm in size.

A mole is also a lesion found on the skin’s surface. Moles are usually round, brown and flat, although it is not uncommon for some moles to be a little raised. A mole may be harmless, but if they become asymmetric in shape, colour, size, and texture or irregular in the border, it is advisable to seek a medical investigation. Clients often want to be rid of them, mainly when found on visible areas such as the face, eyelids, neck, and groin.

At Dr PJ Aesthetic Clinic, one of our advanced aestheticians can examine new or changing skin lesions, if you are concerned. They can be removed by Electrocautery and Electrodessication as an effective treatment to eradicate this troublesome condition successfully. Electrocautery and Electrodessication use heat to kill off the cells and destroy the skin tag or mole.

Frequently Asked Questions

What causes moles?
Most moles result from a harmless overgrowth of the pigmented cells within the deeper layers of the skin. They usually develop spontaneously and can be exacerbated by exposure to UV rays or sunlight; therefore, they tend to present on the trunk, arms, and legs. Although most moles appear before 20 years of age, they do continue into the 30s and 40s. Generally, the majority of moles disappear with age. Adults often develop non-mole growths like freckles, lentigines, “liver spots”, and seborrheic keratosis later adulthood. New moles appearing after age 30 may require close observation, medical evaluation, and possible biopsy. A brand new mole in an adult may sign an evolving abnormal mole or early melanoma. It is vital to have any new or changing mole evaluated by your dermatologist.
A mole may need to be removed by surgery if a diagnosis confirms an abnormality that could be potentially harmful. Otherwise, Electrodessication is a suitable method for benign mole/skin tags which it may satisfy candidate with a more pleasing appearance, or eradicate the irritation and discomfort it causes.
This procedure will cause a certain degree of discomfort, as the treatment will see some trauma to the skin. An appropriate form of anaesthesia will be used to numb the area, and the patient may benefit from some mild pain relief, following the procedure, while the wound heals.
There may be a very slight wound mark left behind after this procedure. It will fade over some time and maybe barely noticeable when healed. This treatment does not require an incision to the skin, ensuring no deep scarring the skin’s surface.
The treatment area may feel a little tender for a few days after the procedure and should not cause too much disruption to your ability in carrying out normal daily activities. However, you may need to take extra care not to disturb the wound while it is healing.
