Profhilo, a summer boost for your skin

Profhilo is the treatment everyone’s talking about, and it seems to be a favourite for this summer. If you’re thinking of the ideal way to boost the quality and condition of your skin before this season’s summer getaway, Profhilo may be it. Results usually take around one month to become visible, so book your consultation now at Dr PJ Aesthetic Clinic and have great-looking skin in time for your holiday. Read on to find out more. What will Profhilo do for my face? Profhilo is a bio-stimulator, a hyaluronic acid gel with bio-remodelling properties. It will help to volumise the skin by inducing the production of new collagen. This differs from dermal fillers, which work to add volume through the insertion of a smooth hydrating gel. Collagen is a naturally occurring protein responsible for a smooth, plump complexion. Increasing levels of collagen work to naturally rebuild the skin’s inner structure and restore its youthful properties. The application involves using the BAP (Bio Aesthetic Points) technique whereby five injections are administered on each side of the face, focusing on the mid-face / cheeks and jawline (malar and submalar areas). As the injections made through the BAP technique are more precise, this treatment is more comfortable, and fewer injections are required than dermal fillers. As well as stimulating four types of collagen and elastin, Profhilo will help to increase moisture levels and hydration. As the skin becomes more voluminous, it will become smoother, stronger and tighter. This results in a complexion with softer wrinkles, less sagging skin, reduced hollowing beneath the eyes and on the temples, and a restored dewy look. In general, your appearance will look younger and more radiant. How long will Profhilo last? Profhilo usually lasts in the skin for around 28 days and usually takes this amount of time to spread throughout the tissues. At around 4-6 weeks after the first treatment session, the next session is required, with two treatments usually needed to produce the desired results. After 28 days, Profhilo will start to disperse and become absorbed by the body, taking approximately six months before all traces have disappeared. As collagen and elastin will also break down naturally (albeit slower than Profhilo), the reversed ageing effects will eventually decline. Although Profhilo may have helped to pause the effects of ageing, your wrinkles and sagging skin can slowly start to return as the ageing process can resume. You may find that after your initial treatment, you may want regular maintenance treatments every six months to help sustain your preferred youthful appearance. Is Profhilo better than anti-wrinkle injections? Both Profhilo and anti-wrinkle injections are popular anti-ageing treatments. Whether or not Profhilo is better than anti-wrinkle injections may depend on your concerns and which is the best option to produce your desired result. Suppose you’re looking for a dramatic reduction in facial wrinkles on the forehead, around the eyes or around the mouth. In that case, anti-wrinkle injections may be your most suitable option. This treatment will target the facial muscles, preventing the contractions and subsequent movement of the skin that leads to a crease or wrinkle. However, if you’re looking for an overall improvement in the skin’s quality, Profhilo may be what you seek. It’s clinically proven to increase hydration and create smoother, firmer skin from the inside out. Some patients prefer Profhilo as they feel they maintain a natural appearance, just more refined and with less prominent signs of ageing. Many patients will use Profhilo to help slow down the ageing process by restoring the internal structure for longer. The frequency of treatments is also fewer, with twice-yearly sessions of Profhilo required, compared to 3 or 4 sessions of anti-wrinkle injections.
